Our trip to Dublin began the day after Christmas. What a wonderful Christmas present to each other. It was chilly, and we were both suffering from the "yorkshire crud" (a bad cold) and so we were unable to drink as much Guinness as we had anticipated. But, regardless of our sober demeanor, we had the most amazing time. We started out with reservations for the wrong nights - oops Sarah! And, then at 10 p.m. found ourself in one of the old historic hotels that goes with a historic pub. We bartered for a room rate, and found ourselves in a room the size of a shoebox, with a skylight as our only window. But it was warm and shelter. The next night we Pricelined a nice five-star Westin in the heart of town. The cruddy night before made it feel like paradise. (It wasn't really that bad!)
The highlight of this trip was the impressive tour of the Guinness factory. At the end each person was rewarded with a nice pint of Guinness. The room was on the top of the building, with views of all of Dublin. Would have been a great site for a big party.
We wandered through the streets and looked at all the buildings and shops. We had terrific food, and even treated ourselves to the Patagonia Outlet's annual bargain sale. Another highlight of the trip was the live Irish music in one of the pubs. You really do have to go to Ireland to experience this!
We took more than enough photos. Enjoy a small sampling:
