In England private land owners allow what is called a "Public Footpath" to go right through their property. These footpaths are well marked, and you have the right to cross through. Matt and Sarah decided to take the day to travel by foot through the countryside to Knaresborough by the public footpath system.
We bought a guide book for trails in the Harrogate area. We started out, first across a wheat field. Then we crossed a bridge that took us right into a horse pasture. Sarah said, this can't be right... we are on the SAME side of the fence as the horses. Matt assured her we were in the right place. At the next fence, we saw the symbol "public footpath." After crossing in and out of pastures we made our way on a paved path down to the river. We followed the banks to Knaresborough, and enjoyed a refreshing lunch. We took a different way back, getting misplaced at one point, ending up in the sticker bushes and nettles, crossing under a barbed wire fence. Sarah was a bit unsure about this situation, but low and behold there was that darn footpath.
